On our first morning of waking up at the beach, the first words out of Helen Grace’s mouth were, “I wanna dig!” So at 6:30 a.m., HG and I threw on the closest clothes we could find (which for her happened to be the ones she wore to dinner the night before), grabbed a pail and shovel, and headed to the beach! I am sure we looked like a hot mess, but we were in hog heaven as HG chased sea gulls and sandpipers, gasped at every sea shell she discovered, and filled endless pails of sand, only to immediately dump them out.
Later, Daddy, Granddaddy, and Spiffer joined us on the beach, and HG and John started digging….and they dug and dug until they had a hole half as tall as Baby Girl! After hours on the beach and in the pool, a sandwich lunch on the balcony, a swimsuit change, and- believe it or not- a nap, we started thinking about dinner and welcomed Grandma and Peggy to the beach. (Grandma had to work on Friday, so they drove down on Saturday.) Helen Grace was ecstatic to show them the condo (“This is our beautiful couch, and this is our beautiful balcony. And this is our ugly chair.”) and then the ocean! We headed to dinner at the Shrimp Shack in Orange Beach, where HG ate up having the full attention of all of her grandparents.
“C’mere, birdie, birdie, birdie.” Chasing a bird and then finding a shell- love the excitement!
It’s a tough life, really. “C’mon, people. Enough with the lunch break. There’s more stuff to do; let’s go!” “Super Hero Helen Grace!!!”
Dancing like a bird and/or a ballerina on the balcony with GD
Finally passed out Grandma and Peggy have arrived! “I show you, Peggy.” Crazy girl on an attention (or sugar) high
