The Snow of Our Wildest Dreams

2021 decided to bless us with a Valentine's surprise! Thanks to a friend's random comment on social media back in 2020 that mentioned it'd be a good idea to buy snow clothes because the winter would be a doozy if it were anything like the spring and summer of 2020, the girls had snow gear. And boy, did we need it. It snowed big time, then gave us a blue sky day to play, and shockingly dumped snow on us yet again! By the end, I think we got between 6-7 inches. Schools were cancelled for a week (virtual classes resumed Thursday and Friday), and we played in it every day. (Well, by the end of the week, HG was focused more on school and preferred to be warm inside in her pjs, so Cress and I braved it together.) The temps were bitterly cold (single digits) at the beginning of the week, but that didn't stop us from exploring and sledding. My girls are BRAVE! The meteorologists said we hadn't gotten this much snow since the late 1980s. Helen Grace is old enough to realize what a lifetime event this snow really was, but I'm worried Cressey will be expecting it next year too! Dumbfounded at the beautiful snow, I kept saying, "We are SO LUCKY," and I eventually heard the girls repeating it. We made so many happy memories!

Sunday, February 14th

Daddy took them on a tromp through the neighborhood in search of slick hills. They didn't find much to sled yet at this point, but the exploring was fun.

The pros of being the baby- getting 'towed' home by Daddy.

Taken by Ginna from her front door

Santa brought the girls an inflatable unicorn sled a few years ago, and it finally got to have its inaugural run. It was actually a great sled and really got up some speed. Even Daddy got in on the action!

What a life...a princess getting pulled home on her inflatable unicorn...

Tuesday, February 16th

SNOW CREAM...we ate it at least once a day, sometimes twice a day, all week long. We'd just put our big bowl back on the patio, and it'd be full again within a few hours.

Trying to find a better way to haul Cress than pulling the horn

HG eventually figured out that she could protect Cressey's face from the splashing snow at the bottom of the hill by covering Cressey's face with her gloves.

Cressey got so cold and HG was so worried about her that she stripped off her own gloves and jacket, wrapped up Cressey, and started huffing it home QUICK. By the time she got home, she needed her puffer but her sissy was warmer. So sweet.

Relaxing after a hard (and fun) day's work!

Wednesday, February 17th

We braved the outside roads for a very short drive to a church down the street and met some SAA friends there. We always pass those big hills now and smile, remembering the big thrills we got riding down! And this is where the unicorn met his demise...RIP

Took Cress a long time to work up her courage for this hill, but she LOVED it when she finally tried it.

Thursday, February 18th

SO MUCH SNOW FELL OVERNIGHT!!!

Back to school at long last- Cress was so happy to see all of her friends' faces pop up!

Look at those icicles!

HG acted as Cressey's cameraman for her music class zoom

Her teacher asked them one by one to show the class a dance move, and Cress immediately exited the scene. There was no talking her into going back on camera. Her teacher later sent out a screenshot of the class, and you see the purple circle of an empty couch? That was Cressey's little Zoom square!

Our neighbor's sweet dog, Ziggy, just let Cressey bury his feet in the snow. Angel.

We built our family of snowmen with holly leaves for eyes and buttons and sticks for arms. She was sooooo sad when she realized they would melt. After much negotiating, she finally decided she'd be ok if we put a ziploc of snow in the freezer so that we could always keep a piece of them. Also, HG told her the snow went to live with Santa at the North Pole and reminded her of the water cycle and that it would evaporate into the clouds and we'd see it again as rain. It's a group effort really.

Friday, February 19th

"She makes snow angels"

"I like to sled with my sister" And that green thing is her unicorn sled

Putting her babies down for a nap while on a snow break

One last sledding adventure before the warmer temps took it away. Cressey and I found a sled in the street that one of our neighbors left for others to enjoy and then a steep driveway, and we HAD FUN!

We both got so hot that we were stripping off our jackets at points. Of course, Cressey just had her gown on underneath- lol!

From the sled prospective

And our sweet neighbor and her grandsons joined us later, so she captured this fun!

Sunday, February 21st

When the streets were cleared but your friends still have some snow in their backyard, they invite you over to have a snowy play date with hot chocolate and a warm fire.
