This year’s St. Patrick’s Day celebration started on Thursday when Helen Grace debuted Grandma and Peggy’s annual gift of her St. Patty’s shirt. This year’s shirt had shamrocks and handprints with “The Leprechauns Made Me Do It” across the front. It was funny trying to explain to her what that meant, and I’m sure HG will strategically pull out that excuse for years to come. I had dinner plans with friends on Thursday, so John and Granddaddy took Helen Grace to Newk’s and Gracie Bleu. She didn’t take a nap that day, so she was an absolute hot mess- both in attitude and in physical appearance with ice cream all down the front of her. I thought it was appropriate that at the end of the day, her leprechaun shirt was trashed!
On the real St. Patrick’s Day, I indulged in a ‘ME day,’ meeting my college friends, Whitney and Rebecca, in Oxford for lunch and shopping. We rarely get time together, especially sans kiddos, so we talked non stop for hours, sipping on cocktails, chowing down on great food, and wandering through all the cute shops Oxford has to offer. As always, they were able to get away from me without taking a picture. I love my family dearly, but this was a great treat and recharge time for me!
While I was gone, John and Helen Grace headed to the zoo because HG has been talking constantly about the dinosaurs. She talked her daddy into a dino stuffed animal, a ride on the carousel, and Dippin Dots. She has him wrapped around her little finger! :) But of course, the whole couldn’t have been a dream due to Toohig’s luck. She fell asleep in the car but woke up as soon as they got home…and never went back to sleep. Needless to say, it was an early bedtime in the Toohig house tonight!
Now she’s not scared of the dinosaurs. She’ll tell people, “They’re not real- they’re ‘chines’ (machines).” Here she is trying to pry a tooth loose. “I not scared.” Still doesn’t like the loud roars though. Lovey and Road Trip Bear (from our Opryland trip) are her must-have companions lately. ROARing at the poor giraffes
