What Have You Done For Me Lately?

We’ve had such a nice break from reality over the last few days, and we’ve had a blast with our little munchkin. Here are some things we’ve learned about her lately…

  • Helen Grace is working on blowing her nose. If you give her a Kleenex, she’ll blow into it- most of the time with success. The only downside is that sometimes she’s ready to blow before you get the Kleenex to her…
  • She will put her finger over her lips (although with the inside of her finger against her lips instead of the side) and say, “Ssshhh!”
  • She now mimics my putting on lotion. With the bottle closed, she will shake the bottle and act like she’s squeezing some out onto her arm, and then she will “rub” it in. (She will also pretend to put on makeup with one of my sponges.) Tonight she gave me a very nice pretend facial. I could get used to this.
  • Helen Grace is speaking a whole different language these days- and a lot of it. While you can pick out a few words here and there, most of it is a mystery. “Mama” briefly changed to “Ma” (of which I accused John of planting his Yankee ways in our unassuming daughter), but that quickly became a very enunciated- and constant- “Mommy.”
  • Every letter you point out and ask her what it is will be a “T!”
  • My parents shared with me today that when you ask her how a kitty cat takes a bath, she will lick the back of her hand and rub her face. Sure enough, she does!
  • Last night, she showed me that she knows how to move the track point on my laptop’s mouse. That’s a little scary. She thinks it’s hilarious to watch the mouse move all over the page and will try to reach out and grab it. Speaking of which, I’ve also noticed that as we are reading books or watching videos on my phone, she will reach out and try to grab ice cream cones or balloons. She is very sad to learn that those don’t come off the page.
  • We’ve spent a lot of time on our bed this weekend. At least five times a day, she will drag me (or anyone else who stops by the house- all grandparents have been there this weekend) in there and want to get up the bed with her. It’s been pretty fun though because if you ask her to cuddle, she’s snuggle right up to you and lay there for a little bit. Priceless. And she’s a great spooner.
  • She must be feeling lucky- or need some of it maybe. She has been crossing her first two fingers a lot these last few days.
  • She is at an all-time high level of obsession over banana milkshakes, and she now gets upset anytime we are in the car and take a sip from a drink with a straw. She thinks we are withholding the Sonic goodness.
  • Sometimes when she tastes something she likes, she’ll rub her tummy in a circle and say, “It’s gooo (good)!”

One of John’s clients sent him a ton of duck whistles (thank you!!), and HG has finally gotten the hang of blowing on them and making them quack. She cracks herself up. After her morning bath…

While we were waiting on Daddy this afternoon, she would not tolerate the car seat anymore, so I pulled her up front with me. I have a feeling we will be going through Drivers Ed before we know it. :)
