CMT’s First Movie: Mary Poppins Returns

On New Year’s Eve, John met the girls and me at a much anticipated event- 1) Mary Poppins Returns (finally!) and 2) Cressey’s first time at the movies! We really hyped it up, and Cressey couldn’t wait to see the “big scream” (big screen). HG was giddy as she showed her the ropes, explaining tickets, helping her pick out a snack (Skittles, of course), and counting all the theatres we walked past until we got to ours. HG convinced her to cuddle up in her seat with her and was ready to cover her ears when the loud previews started. Cressey was thankful for the help apparently because as HG started to move her hands away, Cress quickly pulled them back over her ears. Luckily, she finally adjusted to the noise and let HG put her hands down!

During the movie, the girls and I took a bathroom break. Cress was following HG as she ran down the ramp leaving the theatre, and she tripped and landed on her face on the carpet. She understandably lost it, had a tiny bit of a nosebleed, and banged up her nose pretty good. HG hopped right into comedian mode and after a lot of work, got her laughing again.

The movie was over two hours long, so Cressey started getting a little antsy toward the end but just went from lap to lap and wasn’t disruptive. She loved the movie and squealed, “Mary Poppins!!!,” every time she saw her enter a scene. She’s been telling everyone about going to the movie with the “big scream,” how she and sissy ate so many Skittles, and how loud it was. Sounds like a success to me!

Christmas Day

HG woke up around 7:30 on Christmas morning, and we went to wake up Cressey. The girls followed the trail of Kisses to their loot from Santa. HG couldn’t have been more excited to find a hover board for which she has begged for months (and the laptop Mama and Daddy gave her). Cressey loved her little princess figurines and latch barn. They have both played with the tent for hours, although each of them have been territorial over it at times.

We played for a few hours, Spiffer and GD came over to watch the madness, and then we started getting food ready for our family lunch at noon. We enjoyed having time to visit with everyone and also indulge in all of our holiday favorites.

The crowd cleared late afternoon and left us with a clean kitchen- wow! So we quickly changed into our comfy clothes, and to get some fresh air and enjoy the nice weather, HG and I took Cressey on a walk in her stroller with HG’s hover board. I promise she went slowly- don’t worry!

HG was insistent on getting a gift to Cressey just from her. John took her to Target, and she picked a set of Minnie figurines and a Frozen group of dolls. Both were hits!

Christmas Eve

We enjoyed our traditional Christmas Eve plans- a carols by candlelight service at Bubba’s church and then opening gifts at Jeanne’s house. The girls loved leaving food in the yard for reindeer and cookies and milk for Santa!

For once, she wanted to pose. Didn’t have to ask me twice!

HG drew this nativity on the bathroom mirror. Cressey has had a hard time understanding ‘baby Jesus.’ Sometimes she thinks SHE is the baby. Other times she thinks it’s a baby angel because of the halo that is usually over His head. And she even claims she has Baby Jesus in her tummy, like how Mary had Him in her tummy on the way to Bethlehem. It’s a lot of details for a two year old to take in!

On Christmas Eve day, we just had to get out of the house for a bit. HG wanted to paint pottery, so off we went to let them paint Christmas ornaments. Another first for Cress.
