Spring 2016 Dance Recital

On Saturday, May 14th, Helen Grace had her spring dance recital, and since she is wanting to explore other interests, this might be our last one (at least for the foreseeable future). We did HG’s hair and makeup and got her dressed over at Spiffer’s house since the recital was at the Landers Center, and then Cressey stayed with Granddaddy. After the (two-and-a-half hour- whew!) recital, we grabbed a quick bite at Newk’s before the exhausted ballerina fell into bed. She was all a-twitter and full of herself, but she passed out as soon as her head hit the pillow!

This girl loves putting on make up.

But she does not love hairspray.

CMT: One Month

On Sunday, May 8th, Cressey turned one month old. We had a little photo shoot after our Mother’s Day brunch.

John accurately described the first month as the ‘month of the grunt.’ At one month old, Cressey is smoothed by her paci, although she isn’t addicted to it. Her hairline has started receding a bit (still thick and long in the back), but you can still see the signs of her cowlick up front. She’s never seen a bottle she won’t put down. She’s eating 4 ounces every 2-3 hours. At night, she’ll usually eat and then go right back to sleep. During the day, she’s having more awake time, and we are introducing her to a playmat and tummy time with which she’s had fun. If she cries, she’s hungry, wet, or cold (and very rarely, sleepy). She loves to be wrapped up warmly too, preferring her arms to be free of a swaddle though. She’s wearing size one diapers and is busting out of 0-3 month onesies. Size 3M fits much better. She is pretty happy in a car and falls asleep if she’s not hungry. She’ll go to anyone (thank you, Jesus!) and is ok to lay awake in the MamaRoo or bassinet for a little bit, but she likes to be near people/activity. Don’t dare walk off and leave her alone! If she decides she is hungry though, she will immediately squall, so be prepared with a bottle!

As she tired of our photo shoot, big sis stepped in to soothe her (we call her the baby whisperer for a reason), and she soon had her asleep!

Once the baby was asleep, HG didn’t want to move and wake her up, so she asked me to turn on the tv in the nursery and sat there and watched a movie with a sleeping Cressey in her lap.2016-05-08 14.38.06

Pretty Girl

On Saturday, May 7th, a day short of her one month birthday, we dressed up Cressey in one of my old Feltman Brothers bubbles and snapped some sweet pics of our pretty girl (one while at Spiffer’s and the rest at home afterward). Of course, our original pretty girl had to hop in one too!

Mother’s Day

Mother’s Day becomes even more special when your child is old enough to make presents and answer funny/sweet questionnaires for you. All week, HG kept telling me that she wasn’t doing a thing for me for Mother’s Day, all the while with a twinkle in her eye. On Friday, she came home and proudly gave me these heartfelt creations. Precious!

On Mother’s Day morning (May 8th), we all met for brunch at AC’s in Hernando, which used to be Timbeaux’s where we had our rehearsal dinner almost exactly 10 years ago. With the measles outbreak that we are having in the Memphis area, Cressey stayed in her carrier the whole time, and thankfully, she happily slept. We enjoyed all being together to celebrate the amazing mamas in our family!
Now that HG has her two front teeth back, she can eat corn on the cob!

After lunch, HG went over to the Browns’ (CB is a saint for this entertainment), John went to Kroger, and Cressey and I took a short nap and then got her newborn handprints done.

To end the day, HG requested a picnic for dinner, so this was Cressey’s first time to picnic with us on the patio. She enjoyed watching the ponytail that HG turned into a baby mobile on her car seat.
