Fall Break 2022: Alys

Of all the places in the world, when you ask HG where she wants to go for any school break, other than Ireland, it's going to be Alys. Since we haven't been since last Thanksgiving, we headed back to Alys for Fall Break, and this time we brought Reagan along! It was a quick trip (Wednesday to Saturday), but we made the best of it. And even found some new things to try- Crab Island, paddle boarding, kayaking, and saw a turtle, dolphin, and lots of big birds (and jellyfish)! The girls spent so much time on their bikes (especially the big girls), and the fresh air and water were so refreshing!

John is a master of packing the car. We left around 5:15 a.m. so that we'd get to enjoy some of the day once we made it.

Made it to our Floralalala fish! (1.5 hours from the beach)

(Cressey is down below there, sliding on that fin)

MADE IT!

GET ME ON THAT BIKE!

Ladies, find yourself a man who immediately unloads our wine bottles into the fridge as soon as we arrive. (My dad added 'and one that drove you 8 hrs to the beach')

Lupper at George's

Just had to get in our pool to try it out

And then say hi to our turtles

Found a butterfly that was a little injured and it just walked onto the girls' hands

We didn't want to go home. We stayed on the beach until it was pitch black.

First one to the pool on Thursday and couldn't be more proud of herself

LOTS of cheerleading in the pool this time

We drove over to Destin to play with the Rebicks and Henleys!

Dinner at La Crema

How she spent most dinners at the beach

This little girl rode her bike all the way down to Rosemary and BACK

Sea turtle out near Crab Island!

And a dolphin!

We took a boat out for half a day with Crab Island Cruises and Captain Preston. He had everything we need for a fun day. We just showed up with towels, our booze, and snacks!

Hermit crab!

Mama decided to try the paddle board since the girls made it look so fun. I could kneel on it pretty well, and I could stand up on it...for just long enough to snap this pic...

Aaaaand then....

Look, Ma, no hands!

Cressey is under there with her iPad. Desperate beach moms do what they have to do.

Last night dinner at George's

Time for CRABS

We had heard you could find huge crabs just a few feet into the water, so HG stepped into the water and immediately spotted one! We called in Daddy and borrowed a net from another family, and after a massive fight and a lot of digging in sand, John won and pulled out the crab!

He was huge!

We were about to release the big daddy crab, I was videoing, Reagan was giving us light from HG's phone. HG asked her to video, and when she did, it turned off the light. So for a solid 15 seconds, we were in pitch black at the edge of the ocean with a big ole crab right at our feet! The video is hilarious with all the screaming, "Reagan, turn on the light!!!" "It's crawling over my toe!"

She had to swim one last time before we hit the road on Saturday

At the McDonald's on the way home, no one claimed this ice cream cone, so John offered to take it off their hands. Cressey was the lucky recipient.
