Sadly, Helen Grace’s first soccer practice was rained out last Monday, but Saturday, she finally got to take the field! She was really excited, and I loved watching her daddy get her all dressed in her gear. Right as we walked out the door, I slipped a pink bow in her hair, and when he saw it, her daddy threw a hissy fit but allowed me to keep it in there for Coach Christy to see.
{When John coached for OBHS, he fought the girls tooth and nail about wearing bows in their hair. No bows allowed in soccer. The week before we found out if we were having a boy or girl, the girls had their last game of the season, so they spray painted their hair pink and put all kinds of bows and ribbons in their hair- just to poke fun at Coach. His reaction was hilarious, although he didn’t think it was so funny.}
When Grandma arrived at the game, the first words out of her mouth were, “Is that a BOW in her HAIR?!” And Spiffer immediately fell out in a laughing fit. And of course, Christy loved it. Just the reaction I was looking for! I won’t do it again, but I just couldn’t resist.
Helen Grace seemed to really enjoy the practice and had a good time kicking the ball around. We discovered she’s extremely literal when following instructions. When Christy was trying to describe how to dribble by telling her to kick the ball from one foot to the other, she very slowly kicked the ball from one foot to the next rather than running along and pushing the ball from foot to foot. And she wanted the ball in just the right place before she would launch it. I have no idea where she would get such a perfectionist personality…
With Coach Christy Not too cool to hug her mama on the sideline. She surprised me with this big ole hug out of nowhere. Love it! Then she sidled right up next to me and sat down for her water break. They all though water breaks were cool. Not sure where this fascination with putting her foot up on the ball came from, but it was pretty stinkin’ cute Ann Maxwell is sadly on another team, but they practice at the same time so we were able to hug her neck afterward.
