After being couch bound for a few days, we were all itching to get some fresh air, so we bundled up and headed to the zoo on Sunday morning. Once we got there and were hit by the cold wind (high 40s), we made a detour at the gift shop for a sweatshirt for Mommy and a blanket for baby girl. The animals were really active today with the cold weather, and there were probably only 50 people in the whole place. Great way to see the Memphis Zoo!
A different way to tour the zoo…snuggled up in a blanket in the stroller with lovie. She’s got the life! One of her new favorites is the Animals of the Dark exhibit- she loves the bats??- and we were pleased to find all the lights on today as they were cleaning the cages. You could really see all the animals, and this bear cat thing had fun playing with HG. In all our time spent at the zoo, this was our first time to see the red panda come down from his perch high up in the trees. We were entranced. My favorite, the snow leopard, was really showing off too. Chasing his tail The poor meerkats were freezing. Yes, those are socks on her hands. Gotta improvise! John has figured out that the monkeys next door to the cafeteria hate it when people hug, and they’ll fling themselves at the glass.
Suiting back up to head to the playground She fell asleep for an hour in the car and then continued her nap at home in bed for over two more hours. I think we wore her out!
Tonight we watched ELI win the SUPER BOWL-- AGAIN (can you tell I’m excited!?) and celebrated the kitties’ sixth birthday. Rebel and Mocha were our first children, and while I sometimes cuss them for being so underfoot when I’ve got a baby girl crawling over me too, I am very grateful for their loyalty and unconditional love. Life (or sleep) wouldn’t be the same without them. Happy birthday, boys! John saved them from a terrible situation, and they came home tiny, scraggly, and covered in ringworm and fleas. They’ve come a long way from here where we celebrated their second birthday. I love seeing them fat and happy now!
