St. Patrick’s Day is a pretty big day in the life of an Irish family. Growing up as a European mutt, I just didn’t comprehend what a big deal the holiday was…until I met John Toohig. He grew up going to the St. Patty’s Day parade in New York and being very proud of his Irish heritage. Peggy and Jeanne still go back to the City each year and walk in the parade with Peg’s Hibernians group. Jeanne is a fabulous knitter and used to make John all kinds of Irish sweaters. She surprised Helen Grace with an itty bitty Irish sweater for St. Patrick’s Day, complete with brown leather buttons- how precious! While Grandma and Geggy celebrated the big day in NYC, we celebrated right here on the couch at home. We were there in spirit with you, Grandma and Geggy!
Happy St. Patrick’s Day, my people! Some more examples of Jeanne’s beautiful handiwork… John and Jeanne at the NYC St. Patrick’s Day Parade years agoIt’s no mystery who HG looks like, is it?
