Sliding and Cooking

We’ve had a great weekend and are continually amazed by watching our little monkey run around and learn new things. She is talking up a storm- if we only knew what she was saying!

My cousin Meredith has transferred to Ole Miss, so we will enjoy getting to see our Florida family much more often. Uncle Rod and Aunt Sharon came to move her in this week, so we had a family dinner over at Bubba’s Thursday night.

We’ve spent the rest of the weekend chasing little Miss Priss around and spending some time with her grandparents. She got into a lot of mischief at Spif and Granddaddy’s on Saturday afternoon as the pictures show!

A quick funny from this morning…usually when I get HG out of her bed, she is either really loving and snuggly or she wants to jump out of my arms and run to the stairs. Today, she wanted to run. I set her down, and instead of bolting for the stairs, she ran over to a book on the floor and then starting backing up into me. (This is her cue for me to sit down so she can sit in my lap.) So I quickly hit the ground and slid into place under her bottom, and we read the book twice and then read another one. She spends most of her day with her nose in a book so I’m not terribly surprised, but I’ve never seen her do it the moment she wakes up. So random, but I love that my baby loves to read so much.

Also, we are looking forward to celebrating our month of September birthdays soon. Between the 4th and 10th of September, we have the following birthdays…my mom, my aunt Di, my cousin Ryves, my dad, and ME. My cousin Meredith pulls the end of the chain with hers on the 28th. My dad and I both have BIG birthdays this year. I will leave his a mystery, but mine is the big 3-0. I have mixed feelings for sure, but I am absolutely ecstatic about where I am in life right now so I can only smile and take the birthday graciously.

Enjoy the pics from our weekend!

“Cooking” with Granddaddy

Booster

HG's first time in a big girl booster seat...Mama could only tolerate the wiggling for about 10 minutes, but HG was in hog heaven getting to sit at the table.

Silly Goose…that loves Yurman

Tonight, HG was a silly little goose. When we got home, I was trying to get dinner started and was talking to Bubba on the phone…when John walked in and found HG halfway up the stairs!! Oh lordy, bad mommy moment! Anyway, she was fine (but cracked her sippy cup when she dropped it from hearing our shrieks), and we carried on with our impromptu casserole. We were out of some of the ingredients that I had planned to use, but we made it work and it was surprisingly yummy. Later, HG prissed around the house in her squeaker shoes and pjs and just laughed and laughed at herself.

My girl loves her Yurman!DY2 DY  She is such a priss. She was already in her pjs and brushing her teeth but demanded that I put her squeaker shoes on.CIMG5829 We now have a double handed “I dunno.”CIMG5834 YAY!!CIMG5835 CLAP HANDS!!CIMG5836

And I meant to share a sweet story from the weekend. On Friday night, HG spent the night with Grandma and Geggy while John and I went to see Sugarland. When I went to pick her up on Saturday morning, she dropped what she was doing, RAN to me, and tackled me! Oh, my heart just melted! She doesn’t do that on a normal week day, so I was pleasantly surprised to see she missed me. :)

And finally, on a programming note…after much debate about Little Gym’s offering for day of the week (Friday vs. Saturday) /location (Southaven vs. Memphis) /number of sessions/cost/etc., we have decided to stick it out with Kindermusik one more semester. They are letting us move up to the 18 mos – 3 yr old class with some of our friends, so we are looking forward to seeing what the ‘big girl’ class has to offer!

Cuddle Bunny

After a busy weekend with activities both Friday and Saturday night, we were very happy to have a slow, laid back family day on Sunday. We started the morning with breakfast together on the couch…all HG would eat was Fruit Loops from her daddy’s bowl. He started calling it ‘chick feed’ because she would hold her little mouth open so he could drop it in…over and over and over. Too cute!

We only left the house for a monster trip to the grocery store and Sonic and came home to get back in our pjs. HG was hamming it up for her daddy, and he got some cute pics for her cuddling. He also caught her kissing the mirror hanging on the door in our bathroom. She loves to kiss herself!

And I do have to make a confession…tonight we were sitting at the table eating some angel hair pasta for dinner. HG was sitting in my lap, and we had a little trouble with her trying to maintain control of the long noodles. (I later found one stuck to her chest, under her dress.) So to fix this problem, I attempted to bite the noodles off and then put the shorter portion into her mouth….but unfortunately, I had the same problem she had with maintaining control of the slippery little boogers, and the noodles fell straight off the fork and onto Helen Grace’s head! Of course, John thought this was the funniest thing ever and almost fell out of his chair. And we soon took her straight to the bath tub! Fun times as always at the Toohig table!

Oh, and an update on the BA BA- we haven’t used a bottle at our house in the last week! I think we have finally kicked the habit. It is a little more of a fight than normal at bedtime without that last bottle, but she will usually settle down after a few books and some rocking with Mama. She has taken to sitting next to me in the rocker while we read- she is such a copy cat and wants to do exactly what you are doing!
