Little Rebel
We were so looking forward to cheering on the Rebels this afternoon (from the comfort of home) in their first game against Jacksonville State. (We are waiting for the cooler temps before we introduce HG to the Grove.) Unfortunately, we were sorely disappointed with a big and embarrassing loss, but at least we had a fun afternoon playing out in the driveway!
This has become a nighttime routine in our house…daddy-daughter ice cream! When HG reaches the end of her tolerance for dinner, John asks her if she wants ice cream, and she runs to the fridge. Actually, the other day when I pulled out the ice cream, she ran across the kitchen, wrapped her arms around my legs, and kissed my leg! She obviously is addicted to ice cream, but hey, if it means she eats something, we are going to continue this little tradition. And it’s really cute to see her cuddling with her daddy. :)
A funny story I forgot to share from last week…HG and I got some take-out from Huey’s the other day, and I ordered her some mini corn dogs. As we drove home, I was telling her about what I got her for lunch since she hasn’t had them before, and every time I said ‘corn dog,’ she would ‘woof’ at me! HA!
Dr. Doolittle
We have had a Dr. Doolittle kind of day!
This morning, Helen Grace got to experience our vet, Cat & Cow, for the first time. It’s not just any old vet. They are a ‘country’ vet, and the animals have the run of the property. Today we ran into roosters, cows, a monkey, a sheep, goats, and the pet mountain lion. HG wasn’t too sure about all the animals, especially the really loud rooster. I took the kitties inside for their appointment and left John with HG to check out everything. Of course, I left my camera with him under orders to take pics of all the critters she got close to….and she only got down from his arms to see the mountain lion. When the lion went back into his crate within the cage, he set her down to snap a pic, but of course, that lion smelled food and came running back to the fence so he snatched her up before he could get any decent pics.
To the right of her right hand, you can see the white of his face.
After our trip to Cat & Cow, we decided to continue the day’s animal theme and go to the zoo. The weather was absolutely beautiful, and Spif and Granddaddy joined us to celebrate Spif’s birthday. Because it had been a while since they had been to the zoo, we had so much fun showing them all the new exhibits.
We have never ventured into the Birds exhibit, but we thought we’d be brave this time and check it out. HG loves to watch the birds at Grandma’s, so we thought she would really love it….but not so much. She was really not interested at all and even tried to pull away and get down when we got her close to the birds. Oh well. Obviously, I really enjoyed it!
We learned that elephants get pedicures too- had never seen that before! We wondered how in the world they got him in that position, but while we watched, they got him to step away, turn around for a drink of water, and then back up and stick the other foot through the gate. Apparently, elephants are smarty pants!
Daddy loves to steal kisses from the baby girl!
God’s Country
On Friday, we started the day with our first ‘big gir'l’ Kindermusik class, and I was very pleased. The program for the bigger kids kept Helen Grace entertained and enthralled. The theme is Our House, so we ‘dusted’ and ‘washed clothes’ and played with more advanced instruments and noise makers. I am glad we stayed on for another semester!
Afterward, we headed to God’s country, Oxford. We ate lunch with my cousin, Meredith, and these pics really depict how HG behaved during our lunch…either crying or standing up. Argggg…at least Mere is family and still loves us. :)
And then we went over to the DeeGee house for a meeting with some of my officers, and of course, we had to get my chair photo.
And this is how HG entertained herself during our meeting…
She just had a ball running around our Founders Room, hiding, banging on the piano, waving at all the sorority girls, and answering the front door.
She worked up quite the appetite from all that playing, so I caught her searching for just want she wanted.

Soccer Star
I caught some fun pics and video of Helen Grace working on her ball skills on Wednesday afternoon. She is working hard to make her daddy proud!
I can’t stop laughing at this video- she cracks me up!
And as a bonus, here’s a pic that Granddaddy snapped of HG when he went to pick her up from Grandma’s on Thursday afternoon. “What’s the problem, Mister Officer?”
