We have had a Dr. Doolittle kind of day!
This morning, Helen Grace got to experience our vet, Cat & Cow, for the first time. It’s not just any old vet. They are a ‘country’ vet, and the animals have the run of the property. Today we ran into roosters, cows, a monkey, a sheep, goats, and the pet mountain lion. HG wasn’t too sure about all the animals, especially the really loud rooster. I took the kitties inside for their appointment and left John with HG to check out everything. Of course, I left my camera with him under orders to take pics of all the critters she got close to….and she only got down from his arms to see the mountain lion. When the lion went back into his crate within the cage, he set her down to snap a pic, but of course, that lion smelled food and came running back to the fence so he snatched her up before he could get any decent pics. To the right of her right hand, you can see the white of his face.
After our trip to Cat & Cow, we decided to continue the day’s animal theme and go to the zoo. The weather was absolutely beautiful, and Spif and Granddaddy joined us to celebrate Spif’s birthday. Because it had been a while since they had been to the zoo, we had so much fun showing them all the new exhibits. We have never ventured into the Birds exhibit, but we thought we’d be brave this time and check it out. HG loves to watch the birds at Grandma’s, so we thought she would really love it….but not so much. She was really not interested at all and even tried to pull away and get down when we got her close to the birds. Oh well. Obviously, I really enjoyed it! We learned that elephants get pedicures too- had never seen that before! We wondered how in the world they got him in that position, but while we watched, they got him to step away, turn around for a drink of water, and then back up and stick the other foot through the gate. Apparently, elephants are smarty pants! Daddy loves to steal kisses from the baby girl!
