The girls and I snuck off to NYC as soon as exams finished for a little Christmas fun and to check on the apartment. We left John home alone as a gift to him, although he worked around the house *constantly* and did not rest as instructed. The elves came along too, and the Morrisons' and I were able to pull off a major surprise for Cressey and Julia- an afternoon together in the City! They were shocked! We were also as surprised to run into Cynthia Erivo at Bergdorf's- ahhhh! More details below.
The sweetest pilot who played along with my photo request
Checking in at Sutton Place
SUMMIT One Vanderbilt was amazing!
So this room was unbelievable. There are big fans around the room that are blowing the balls up toward the ceiling. Couldn't tell if they were helium-filled or just light enough to float so well. But I could have stayed in here forever.
IT'S SNOWING!
Look at this snowflake!
We had dinner at Lodi, right across from the Today Show studio and with a great view of the Rockefeller tree. We sat on the terrazzo which was plenty warm and cozy. Can't beat the view!
So crowded at night that this was as close as we got
Got to say hello to the Palace tree
The elves were doing yoga!
(A pic from home)
Saturday morning, we woke up to find that it had snowed!
St. Patrick's was beautiful in Advent decorations touched with snow
We can't take the credit for building this little snowman, but he's so cute
We were headed to the 10 am Rockette's show and passed the tree when it was very lightly attended. We could get so close and found lots of sweet new friends who we all traded taking pics for each other. I couldn't get over how pretty it was with snow!
Rockettes were just as wonderful as we remembered. Well, Cressey didn't remember so it was like new to her!
After the show, the Morrisons' train had arrived so we headed to the tree to meet them. HG was on to the schtick, so she was trying to get Cressey to pose for a pic RIGHT IN FRONT OF JULIA. Cressey had NO IDEA. She had just said, "Oooh, this is the place we usually meet Julia." But still wasn't even looking around.
Finally we had to point Julia out for her!
Happy tears arrived
Lunch at Bad Roman at Columbus Circle
The girls wanted to go play in the snow in Central Park
We were frozen after the walk through Central Park, so we tried to duck into the Plaza but they were closed to non guests. So we thought, let's go into Bergdorf Goodman's and walk around. A very nice employee mentioned to us that they were offering hot chocolate up on the 6th floor. That sounded nice, so up we went. It was delicious, by the way.
After hot chocolate, we headed back downstairs. They have those small escalators that circle around on each floor. So you go down one floor and have to turn and get on the next escalator to go to the next floor. As we were coming down one level, I noticed a beautiful woman and a man shopping but didn't pay a lot of attention. After we turned the corner onto the next escalator, HG grabbed my arm and was like, "MAMA, THAT WAS ELPHABA!!!!" We got off on the next floor and waited on the landing, and sure enough 'Elphaba' (Cynthia) came down behind us- confirmed with her beautiful and LONG nails. As she got off the escalator, I approached her and told her how much we loved her and asked for a pic. She immediately handed off her bags to the guy- her bodyguard- and happily hopped into pics. She was so kind and soft spoken and lovely. After she walked off, we were just gobsmacked. COULD NOT BELIEVE IT!!
The Louis Vuitton suitcase building
We walked through Saks, stopped at the Palace for drinks and snacks, and then it was sadly time to go
More tears but not happy ones this time
Dinner at La Pecora Bianca Midtown- HG has been dreaming about this rigatoni since we went here with the Morrisons last time
Her first gift to pick out at Tiffany's, right from the store under the Rockefeller tree!
