San Diego: Animals of Land and Sea

Thursday morning gave us a LOT of rain, so after a very exciting morning of room service breakfast (HG's dream come true, especially when she gets to order it), we started the day with a visit to the Birch Aquarium. Usually, when you walk in the building, you are treated to a panoramic view of the ocean, but that day, clouds completely blocked the view. (Cress was really worried about the fog taking over everything.) The girls flew through the exhibits so quickly that we made a second loop to see what they blew past the first time. The sea dragons, sharks, and teeny tiny seahorses were a family favorite. (The touch pools were closed due to the coronavirus.)

Afterward, we walked from our hotel to Duke's down the street and tried to enjoy the most of the rainy patio view. Soon though, we were so relieved to see a bit of sun come out! While John was on a work call, the girls and I took off and made it to the zoo mid afternoon. John surprised us by meeting us there in a little bit. The San Diego Zoo lived up to all the hype- it was amazing! It has a great bus system that runs through the zoo to lessen the walking, and they have koalas- my new obsession! Their Asian cat exhibit was amazing with cheetahs, jaguars, and white leopards crossing catwalks above you as you walked through the exhibit. Definitely a must-do in San Diego!

After a quick dinner at Duke's, we turned in for the night.

The sidewalk to the aquarium was covered in slugs, and our girls couldn't pass that up.
