We celebrated NYE as we have done the last few years- all the old neighborhood boys and their families come over to our house for a very loud and laidback celebration. This year, the kids were able to entertain themselves for the most part, which led the grown ups to have some quite lively conversations around the kitchen table. Although we had to admit that you know you’re old when your conversations cover the economy, religion, and politics- whew! Of course, it’s much more fun with a glass or two of wine, and we had to lighten it up with a bit of Hollywood gossip every now and then!

After our New Year’s Day nap on the 1st, John got an itch to get out of the house, so we decided to try something new with Helen Grace- bowling. Who knew that John was such a stellar bowler?? As a result, he became the coach while I was the photographer. She really enjoyed it, and when it was one of our turns, she’d cheer us on with, “Go, Mommy! You can do it!” or “Almost got it! Keep trying!” About halfway through, she got a bit distracted by the game room, but she’d come back around when it was her turn again. She even knocked down a few pins- really good for her first time! As soon as our game was over though, she was off like a rocket to play games (which, thankfully, just means turning all the knobs and steering wheels, without putting in any change). And of course, she spotted the cotton candy. Her daddy was happy to oblige her on that one though.
We had a great time, and I’m sure we’ll be back soon on another cold and dreary day. Oh, and the strawberry on her chin chin is from having too much fun in the jumpy on NYE- a night to remember!
The cutest little bowling shoes! She thought the ball was sooo cool. First shot Love this one! She may or may not have seen her mama standing like this, willing the dang ball to go in the right direction.
