On the way home from the zoo on Wednesday, Helen Grace caught a cat nap, but it was all over once we pulled into the garage. I tried my best but couldn’t get her back to sleep. Ann Maxwell and her mama brought over a birthday happy- paint! And the girls went wild painting at the kitchen table and playing in HG’s play room. So cute to see them have so much fun together!
Later that afternoon, Helen Grace and I ran to pick up cupcakes and dinner for our family, and that’s when the you-know-what hit the fan. The grumpy toddler had had enough of being toted around, and not even a cupcake would do the trick. I’m lucky that Child Protective Services wasn’t called for the fight we had to get her into her car seat in the parking lot of the cupcake place. We called in Granddaddy and Spif to pick up dinner and headed home. Once her grandparents arrived at our house, she put on a happy face and enjoyed opening presents, although she was VERY shy about everyone singing to her. When the sky turned yellow and the thunder and lightening hit, we called an early end to our family celebration, and soon HG and I were in my closet yet again. By the time the sirens went off, it was way past the birthday girl’s bedtime. After another grueling fight, our baby girl finally gave in and laid her sleeping head down on the pillows of her big girl bed.
Happy birthday to my precious, fiesty, love of my life, Helen Grace!
