Spring Break: Jackson or Bust!

Our Spring Break got off to an early start on Friday, March 6th, when the last, half day of school was cancelled because of the snow still on the ground. HG and I had planned to leave for a weekend in Jackson at lunchtime on Friday, so after a lot of scouting road conditions, we decided to still strike out for our trip since Jackson hadn’t gotten any snow. We found ice under overpasses on the interstate for 60 miles or so, but after that, the roads were fine.

We spent Friday night and Saturday morning with Reba and the kiddos. The girls (and little) William too) had a big time running wild out in the yard and woods behind their house. After dinner, they all piled into their sleeping bags for a viewing of Frozen. Leighton and HG were the only two left standing after the movie, and while HG attempted to sleep in Leighton’s room, she soon decided to sleep with mama instead. The next morning, the outside fun continued, and after lunch, I had to pull {a muddy, happy, and exhausted} HG away to go see our Jackson family.

We joined Aunt Glo, Suzanne, and Grace Ann for mass at Gloria’s church, and then we met Uncle Lary for dinner at Primos’. Worth made it back in town from a baseball game after dinner and came to see us at Gloria’s. He came over in the morning for a bit too. We had planned on meeting Suzanne and Grace Ann for lunch, but at the last minute, they decided to head to Memphis to shop a great sale at the equestrian shop to get GA ready for a horse show. Gloria decided to hop in the car and ride home with us (yippee!) so that she could keep Suzanne awake on the late ride home, and then we met up with Suzanne, GA, Hanley, Cam, Hayes, and Hastings for our already-planned family dinner in Southaven with Granddaddy, Spiffer, Grandma, and Peggy. McAlister’s might never be the same, but we had a BALL!

2nd Annual GenerosiTEA

In February, Helen Grace and I enjoyed our second LeBonheur GenerosiTEA with HG’s school friends. This year, we made it a SK class affair, and we had 27 moms and daughters in attendance. SO MUCH FUN. The gaggle of girls flitted from activity to activity and mostly ran up and down the stairs while the moms visited. Love this new mother-daughter tradition!

How to make a baked potatoBella Marie’s mama texted me this pic while I was at work and she dropped by school.Someone did NOT want to go to bed. I literally dragged her up the stairs. That wasn’t very effective because she thought it was HILARIOUS!Sunday night family cuddle timeRebel was a little clingy that night (in HG’s bed).After-school Whimsy Cookie stop. I can’t get used to that new snaggle tooth smile!She was telling me how to play checkers on the floor tiles.I got a new curling wand, and she let me practice on her.So I created a curly haired monster. I agreed to curl her hair before school the next day. It looked great until we walked outside into the rainy day, and her curls fell a little bit. Love this oh-so-typical view of Bubba at her doorSo it took 5.5 years, but HG finally took scissors to her own hair. She got a barrette stuck and decided to cut it out instead of asking for help. Luckily, it was below her ear on her left side, so it’s not terribly noticeable but she was REALLY upset about it.Princess upon princess upon princess upon princessOne day over Spring Break, Spiffer and GD took HG to the Gross-ology exhibit at the Pink Palace. ”Mama, you were right”:  One morning she came into my bathroom and said, “Mama, I have something important to say. You were right to tell me not to stand on my plasma car behind the couch.” After I picked my mouth up off the floor, I smartened up and realized I needed that statement on tape. She took a bit of ‘reminding’ but eventually helped me recreate the moment. ww

 

SAA Gala

We experienced our first St. Agnes-St. Dominic Gala to support our school {Feb. 28}. It was at Minglewood Hall and had a Vegas theme, so my coworkers helped me step up my game by lending me a glittery dress and earrings and doing my hair for me. {I am so thankful for talented and trendy friends!} The SK parents were the first- and last- on the dance floor. Can’t wait to see what fun these next 12 years will bring!
