HGT's 16!

 Helen Grace is 16!

  • She loves varsity cheer and is ready for football season so she can get back on the sidelines.
  • She is THRILLED that she's now showing in children's (3ft) and is growing a great relationship with Cayman.
  • She wants to drive any second she can, and as a result, she's already driven interstates, in the rain, late at night, etc. She got her license as soon as she could after her holiday weekend birthday (Tuesday at 9:30). She did her driving test with Maxwell, so we just had to hand the DMV the paperwork.
  • She's calm, cool, and collected. Not much bothers her. Or if anything, she'll have a quick flash of emotion and then go back to baseline.
  • She has a great group of core girls and guys, and they like to hang out around our fire pit/ pool, go to El Mezcal, or ride around to fast food restaurants (ha!). That makes youth group a lot of fun too.
  • Favorite foods include fettucine alfredo/ Pasta Roni, Rice a Roni, Zaxby's, Twix, and Alani (only two sips).
  • She revolves music and dancing. Loves making playlists. Loves going to concerts.
  • Favorite color is purple (and she loves asking you what your favorite color is too)
  • She is still the only one of us that Blue wants to have anything to do with. The other kitties will wander into her room too from time to time, but Blue is (thinks he is) still the boss.
  • Still very allergic to horses and cats and pollen and anything in the air, still needs inhaler during certain times of the year.
  • She can tell you the UV index at any given moment.
  • She loves to travel and explore new places and equally likes to be at home.
  • She's poured herself into any way to be involved at school. She's been elected Junior Class co-Spirit Week Coordinator (with Mary Caroline again), she's been chosen as a leader on the Student Ambassadors, and she's joined the Retreat Leaders to put on retreats for younger classes.
  • She's been 5'4" for a year at least and loved it, hoped she'd stay there forever. But she's grown a little this year and has now measured 5'5" twice and is MAD about it.
  • She gets car/ motion sick.
  • She loves sleeping/ lounging in her bed. (Although she also wears out her seat at the kitchen table and has taken over the living room lately.) She'll never turn down a mama's bed night though.
  • What does she want to be when she grows up? A labor & delivery nurse, an ultrasound tech, a psychologist, a kids' physical therapist?

She made her quarter grades, so John and I picked her up after cheer to go get her car. She hadn't wanted to be surprised and was a part of the process, but we didn't tell her/ didn't confirm that it was happening that day. But when she saw John in the car too, she knew something was going on!

Getting excited

Grandparents waiting on us to arrive

The salesman made her close her eyes and guided her into the room. When she opened her eyes, she was shocked to see grandparents and screamed! lol

She must be happy- a voluntary sister hug! Cress was so happy for her to finally get her car.

And even a hug for daddy!

Overwhelmed and happy (in line at CFA)

First ride to school the next day

Cressey loved her first ride

Rylee and HG had a joint Sweet 16 birthday dinner at Ciao Bella

We put funny pics of them as babies/ tweens on straws, and they actually thought it was funny too!

Her actual birthday- finally- fell on the Sunday of Memorial Day weekend! She went to Horsehoe with friends for the weekend, and I was READY to get her home on Sunday morning! After John snapped this pic, the rain began and never ended, so we didn't get a pic of HG in front of it. In fact, the wind blew down the 6 lol

Family dinner on birthday night- while we watched the Monaco Grand Prix!

IT'S FINALLY HAPPENING!!! On the Tuesday after her birthday (27th), she finally got her official license! She had done the driving test with Maxwell a few months ago, so we literally just had to hand the DMV the paperwork and let her take a new pic (which she was very happy with, btw, the lady was like, "You know I know what I'm doing, girl! I got you!"). In and out in 17 mins with an appointment (unlike the line of people around the parking lot). She spent the day driving to the furthest Starbucks, running errands for me, and even taking Cressey to TCBY!

Toohig Tidbits: May

Memphis in May I show- sadly, Friday got rained out

Let's try this again- Saturday

A MUDDY MESS

Antics with the teenager

More antics

Birthday girl!

I (along with a lot of other mamas) helped mind a JK classroom so that the teachers could enjoy their lunch break, and Ms. Sarah showed me Cressey's artwork that she still had hanging in her room!!!

Casual day

Pics from school of HG trying to clean out her locker

Dinner date with the Ducks

A very rainy concert night out with Brandy, HG, and Victoria- Ella Langley and Riley Green in Tupelo

Cressey's Mother's Day card had little notes inside it that she could hide all over for me to find. I loved seeing where she chose to put them- under my breakfast ingredients was a no brainer!

Mother's Day brunch at Bog & Barley, Grandma and HG had their claddaghs on!

And Brandy got to come along too! What a special weekend together!

Best end to Mother's Day

Our girl was highlighted!

When you forget to bring your saddle and boots back to the barn after a show

Our family sponsored a wish for a sweet little boy who wished for a puppy! We arrived early and got to get all the puppy snuggles with Bear- he was so so cute and chill. When the family arrived, the girls were a few yards away with the puppy and got to walk over with it and surprise him. We all were so touched by the sweet family and the fun reaction!

Goats at school

Zoo field trip

Stumbled upon this scene in the playroom- love it!

As part of our Project Graduation plans, we had a therapy bunny come. I had to pick her up and bring her to the event, so we had her at home for a few hours beforehand. She was a big hit!

For HG's Latin final, she made a sculpture of the goddess Iris. I was so proud of how it turned out!

Looking through Cressey's Spanish notebook from the year

As part of Project Graduation, the senior girls painted rocks to hide for the younger kids. Cressey loved this idea, so she started painting rocks for neighbors and then delivered them to mailboxes.

Randomly caught her outside trimming the flowers on the front porch

Time to take the top off the Jeep- she's a happy girl!

Cressey has asked to start ice skating lessons, and she LOVES it

Summer is here!!

Penny Girl loooooves pieces of shredded cheese

And this girl loooooves to shop now
