On Sunday, our zoo withdrawals overtook us and we set off early in the morning to check up on our home away from home. Due to a combination of threatening rain (which never materialized), temps in the low 90s, and tax free back-to-school shopping weekend, we had the place to ourselves. Peggy and Grandma came along for the ride, and we really had a great time as we explored and got into all kinds of trouble, complete with Dippin Dots, popsicles, train rides, camel rides, big time splashing in puddles, and a ride on the carousel.
The animals were all showing out in the ‘cool’ morning air. My favorite, the snow leopard, was chasing and then chewing on his tail. And Helen Grace spotted the hatching eggs of the bird creature in the Cat Country exhibit. We literally watched the mama clean off the baby birds. Amazing. The cheetahs were taking a dip in their river and were quite feisty.Helen Grace set our course. First, Once Upon a Farm, by way of Cat Country. And wouldn’t you know it, she actually correctly pointed out the farm area of the zoo on the map. Good morning, lions! Peggy wanted to see the pregnant donkey (HG asked when it was going to hatch…), and the cow took a liking to Grandma. This was the only cow that Helen Grace would get close to. One of our favorite parts of grandparents coming to the zoo with us…we parents get to sit back and kick our feet up while the grands enjoy all the rides! ;) A girl on a mission We were big supporters of the misting fans once the temps starting climbing. Peggy took her shoes off to cool her feet in the puddles, and Helen Grace thought that was a GREAT idea, much to the chagrin of Grandma and Mama. But hey, with these happy faces, we couldn’t stay mad very long! :) Pure heaven! Peep pie- I see you!Carousel: Before Lovey and After Lovey Starting to get some sleepy eyes And guess who rode the camel AGAIN?! And guess who rode one for the FIRST time in her life?! We couldn’t stop laughing- so proud of them both! And a popsicle for the road…
