John went to school at a wonderfully kept secret in the hills of upstate New York, about an hour south of Buffalo. Houghton College is the home of the pace maker, believe it or not! Like Oxford of days gone by, it’s close to a large city, but the college town has been kept small with thriving local businesses. Since John visited a client in the area, we took the opportunity to stay a few nights in the beautiful Houghton Creek Inn on campus. I love that John would take Helen Grace on walks in the morning to show her around the campus (and let me have a shower in peace). To me, Houghton has the feel of summer camp in the mornings especially- cool, misty, and wooded. Very neat. Also, Letchworth State Park is nearby and has some breathtaking views of deep gorges and huge waterfalls. We enjoyed introducing Helen Grace to these important parts of her daddy’s life.
HG and I played at the Rochester mall while Daddy visited a client. I got so desperate to keep her entertained that I 1) treated myself to an ice cream cone and 2) eventually gave in and let her try it as well- it was her first ice cream cone! She really got the hang of sticking her tongue out and tasting it. That’s my girl! She wore herself out. First pair of Keds- don’t know what we would have done without some closed-toe shoes. It was COLD! Letchworth State Park and its beautiful waterfalls John and I at the same falls back in 2004 John’s former professor and his wife invited us to dinner at the Glen Iris Inn at Letchworth. They were so sweet to us, and I loved getting to know them. CHEESE! Our trip to Houghton back in October 2004 In the same place but five and a half years later and with the beautiful addition to our family! Luckey Building- the Lyceum of Houghton On the steps of Wesley Chapel Blurry pic but cute of baby girl
