The holiday spirit has arrived in the Toohig household! We’ve had a laidback, ‘no make-up’ (for me) kind of weekend, and we are so ready to experience Christmas through our child’s eyes. Our gifts are all wrapped, and grocery shopping is done. We didn’t have anything on our social calendar, so we’ve enjoyed some time with our baby girl. We even turned on the holiday music channel on the tv this morning while we baked a cake and had a little Christmas music dance party. (John wouldn’t let me take any pics of our celebration, but you can hear the music in the background of our sippy cup video- ha!) I love our silly, goofy life! And I hope HG loves it too and doesn’t think her parents have lost it!
Helen Grace has been SO BUSY these last few days, and it’s been a full-time job to keep her entertained. We go from the couch to the floor to the jumperoo, back to the couch, then to the highchair, go for a walk, drink a bottle, sleep for a few minutes, and the cycle starts all over again. She’s happy most of the time, but man, when she’s not happy, ain’t nobody happy! :) We’ve also had a hard time getting her to sleep this weekend. She will go down for a few hours at bedtime and then wake up so upset. Both nights this weekend, letting her cry hasn’t worked, and we have to pick her up and cuddle and try a bottle, which finally calms her down. As I type tonight, she’s throwing a fit in her crib. We’ll give her a few minutes, and see if she can work it out. It must be the teeth- that’s the only thing that has changed in her routine.
A fun new development…we tried giving her a sippy cup for the first time today. She really loved it because she loves to hold onto things AND chew on anything! Brandy gave me a huge bag of different kids of sippy cups that her girls had outgrown- thanks, Big Red! I obviously didn’t know how to work the first cup we tried because water ended up going all over her when she got it to her face. Poor baby! She was a good sport though, and she instantly took the next one we gave her. I just put a little bit of water in it, so the few times that she got it turned up enough for the water to come out, she made such a funny face! She kept at it though and really gave that cup hell. I love watching her learn new things. You can see the wheels turning in her head.
Enjoy the sippy cup video and pics from our weekend!
It seems like overnight that she has gotten so much stronger at sitting up. She can sit up on her own for a long time now, and she really loves to get to see everything going on around her. Here’s a pic from bathtime with Daddy. And don’t worry, John was sitting right there on the floor next to her.”Hey, you!” Helen Grace had her first baking experience this morning as we baked a cake for Rachel who had shoulder surgery on Friday. Man, HG wanted what was in that bowl BADLY, and she is STRONG! Mocha was supervising HG’s lunch today. Poor cat is so desperate for attention that he would probably eat the nasty baby food!”I really like this new cup thingie, Mama; especially now that you aren’t drowning me anymore!”
