HGT Horse Show: First Canter

HG’s riding teacher finally convinced her to try a group class. (And by ‘convinced,’ I mean her teacher told me she advised it, so I signed HG up without telling her. She’s always been shy about group classes.) Well, it turns out that she really enjoys the group class and has a big time running around the barn with her friends. Who knew?

Somewhere in the last month, she’s gotten more brave about cantering. When we were driving to the barn one time, she said, “If Ms. Jody lets me ride Moon, I'll try to canter.” It took everything I had not to immediately text her that tidbit, but I let it ride, and sure enough, she gave cantering a try that day on her own free will and ROCKED IT!

At the end of that class, Ms. Jody asked if she wanted to canter in the upcoming horse show. In her excitement, HG readily agreed. Aaaannnd then we both rethought that decision, but she stuck with it and proudly cantered in the Halloween themed show. She didn’t even seem terribly nervous about it and was really looking forward to cantering. It’s been refreshing to watch her be so passionate about getting to the barn, and it is one of parenthood’s greatest blessings to see your baby conquer a fear so gracefully and bravely.
Bubba even came!
