Toohig Tidbits: December

While we were putting together a Lego set, she said, “You gotta take a chance, take a risk.”

“Can you imagine the people that don’t believe in Santa? What is that about? Do they believe that your parents move the elf and put the presents out and eat the cookies??? That’s crazy!”

While riding in the car with GD and Spiffer, they asked her who she was more like, Mama or Daddy? “I’m one of a kind!”

I turned the tv off while she was doing spelling homework so she could/would focus. When she asked why I did that, I said, “School is the most important thing in your life.” She was irrate. “But you said last week that God is the most important! You can’t have two!”

“Whenever you say ‘we’ll talk about it later,’ that means ‘no.’”

About her Barbie… “We need to get her leggings because look how short her dress is!”

She loves wearing my heels around, and she fell and scratched her leg on the wedge bottom. She was really mad and swore she’d never wear them again, but I saw her wearing them a day or two later. “HG, I thought you were mad at those shoes.” “For like a day, Mama!”

We got caught in a rainstorm, and she said, “Man, the clouds must have really had to pee!”

John was upstairs working out, and as she headed upstairs to play in the playroom, I told her, “Don’t bother Daddy right now, but when he gets done, I want to ask him to make us milkshakes.” She jumped up and down and then tried to calm down before going upstairs. “Mama, I kind of have a twinkle in my eye!” Squints her eyes and shakes her head. “Is it still there, Mama?” Does it again. “Gone now??”

“Maybe Santa will fill my stocking with pics of Peggy.”

We were watching one of her tv shows, and I pointed out a way the girls could save themselves. I asked her if that would work, and she quipped, “Well, if they were smarter…”

“When we share our back-to-school assignment at school about ‘sounds you heard at your home over the holidays,’ I’ll say our house is not normal so beware to be laughing or scared!”

Finally wearing her SAA sweatshirt and loving it

I found this that she wrote on her napkin. She later explained that one of her friends said she didn’t love herself but that she did.

One afternoon, the sunlight was just lighting up her blue eyes. I tried to take some pics that showed her true color, but I couldn’t quite capture it. I did get this precious little grin from a happy girl though. Maybe it had soemthing to do with our sitting outstide of Gibson’s Donuts…

Right before school dismissed for Christmas, John’s group had a family party up at the office. HG always loves this get together because she can run from/ chase all the boys around! This year was no different, and it is so fun to watch.

On the back was a ‘compliments page.’ 1. I love Grace DuSha. 2. I love Cressey M (she didn’t know how to spell Margaret). 3. We love you’re always happy. 4. You forget easily. 5. We love you. You brighten my day.

More happiness in mama’s heels. Her daddy took this one when she went upstairs (while wearing those shoes) to show him her outfit, and I have to admit that I think it hurt his heart a little bit.

On December 29th, we met my former coworker, Jessica, and her daughter and hubby at the zoo while she was in town for a visit. It was now in the high 40s- brr! Pass the Sudafed and Kleenex as we are all sick from weather changes!

On the 30th, the Mullins were in town, so ‘the boys’ and their families came over for dinner. The top pic is from 2012, and the bottom is from 2015. Some things never change!

Our New Year’s Eve was very low key since we were leaving really early the next morning to head to New Orleans for the Sugar Bowl. We had an extended family dinner with GD, Spiffer, Grandma, Bubba, Lillian, and the Mullins at Newk’s around 5:00 and then came home around 7:00 for bedtime. Thanks to the fireworks though, it was an up and down night for several hours- ugh! I am just thankful she wasn’t hung up on watching the countdown for once. She’s too old to fool by pulling up a previous year’s countdown on YouTube! She refused pics at dinner, but I did get these pics of her with John at bedtime.
