Weekend Hangover

Saturday morning, we started the day with a soccer game at St. Agnes. While it was freezing last weekend while we were in Vegas, it was HOT this weekend (of course). Afterward, we figured we couldn’t be any hotter, so we might as well go to the zoo. We ate a quick lunch while John and HG made the monkeys go berserk (I swear, the whole Cat House was watching them make the monkeys slam themselves into the window), and we hadn’t even made it to the giraffes before HG asked to be carried. Needless to say, it was a short zoo trip (after a sweetly requested popsicle to cool down). We turned on her sleepy music on the way home, and she was asleep before we left the parking lot.

After a good nap that moved from the car to Mama’s bed, John and HG headed to mass with Grandma and Peggy while I celebrated Ginna’s birthday with a girls’ night to Como. Fun!

On Sunday, we went over to see Teddy for his birthday and enjoyed some of his delicious banana pudding. Afterward, we headed to Aintree Farm for a make up horseback riding class, and Peggy and Grandma got to come along to see her in action!

We met Spiffer, GD, and Bubba for dinner afterward, but when HG put her head in my lap during the meal, we knew we had to get home- quick!

On the way to dance after school on Monday, I made her take a nap to take the edge off, which really helped her weekend hangover. When bedtime rolled around though, she was awake. I left her in her bed around 8:00, and when I came back at 9:30, the girl was still up and was reading a book- AHHHH!

After calm, relaxing afternoons and early bedtimes on Tuesday and Wednesday nights, I think we have finally recovered from our busy weekend.

Disney on Ice

Ginna and I enjoyed a girls’ night out to Disney on Ice last Friday with Elsa and Ariel. It was a very fancy night with our very own princesses in tow, complete with Chick-fil-a drive through dinner, tiaras, and light up princess spinners. Toohig Tidbits: Hello, September

At the Life Is Good store on Labor Day, I was looking at scarves. John took one of them and wrapped it around his neck. HG, as she sat on my hip, just looked at him and shook her head very slowly as if, ‘No, Daddy. Just No.’

We grabbed an after-school cupcake. As we walked to the car, I asked HG to keep it in the paper sack because I would cry if the cupcake hit the pavement. HG responded, "Mommy, it's NOT that traumatic."

I told her I was planning on bringing lunch to her at school this week. She said she was going to give her classmates clues for who was coming to lunch. “She has blue eyes, pink lips, and strips of blonde hair and strips of black hair.”

At dinner with GD, Spiffer, and Daddy, she was telling us about her lesson with Beanie Baby. She was trying to think of the word ‘crop’ and GD finally remembered it. HG said, “Yes, it was on the tip of my tongue!” Spiffer laughed and kind of repeated, “It was on the tip of your tongue?,” and HG said, “No, you pop her on the neck, not on the tongue.”

“I love beautiful things.”

We often do this little ditty together. John or I will say “Itty bitty baby—,” and then HG will pipe up with, “GIRL!”

Every night before she drifts off to sleep, HG says, “Mama, tell me what to dream.”

“Mama, I used to be Calvin Douglas’s #1 girl and now I’m #2, and I’m so frustrated!”

While We Were Gone

There’s no doubt as to how great HG’s grandparents are. While we were in Vegas, we missed a soccer practice, her first soccer game, and dance class. And HG didn’t skip a beat, thanks to her grandparents stepping in. She barely missed us! Thank you, thank you, thank you!
