Mommy Day

This Wednesday, HG and I went all out. After cheer camp, we met a friend for lunch at Aldo’s downtown. They gave HG a lump of pizza dough which thoroughly entertained her for hours. She even wore it home as a bracelet! (Don’t worry; I threw it away as soon as she sat it down and forgot about it.)
After lunch, we went over to the Coats to swim. HG did so well in the pool! She’s getting much more confident and interested in swimming on her own. We had so much fun with the Coats girls that I had to drag her out of the pool around 5:00, and we headed home to scrounge up dinner.
HG and I decided we’d try to grill pork chops on our own. If only we could have seen a video of ourselves- HG and I standing there looking at the grill like it was going to explode- hilarious! We pulled it together and did a decent job for our first attempt. Helen Grace thought it was such a momentous night that it constituted a ‘fancy’ dinner in the dining room. She set up our table and place settings by herself- even with the spoon and knife on the right side and fork on the left. I was so impressed!

SAA Cheer Camp

Of all the camps that SAA offered this summer, HG jumped at the cheer camp. Considering my lack of athleticism and hand-eye coordination, I’m interested in letting her develop as much athletic ability as possible, so I signed her right up. She has enjoyed it a lot, and once she got over the little mark on her leg from stunting the first day, she was ecstatic every day to get to camp. We’ve enjoyed seeing her learn her words and movements throughout the week and gain confidence every day. Evie and Olivia were also in the camp, so they had fun getting to spend time together. On Friday morning, Granddaddy, Spiffer, and I were able to see what all she had learned, and afterward, she went out to lunch and to the zoo with Evie. Talk about being in hog heaven!

Toohig Tidbits

“That’s crazy business!”

“Did you see that hot mess?!”

“Holy macaroni!”

“I want you to bling bling me out.”

“No, Daddy, I did not just roll my eyes at you. I just made a rainbow with them.”

HG put on her dress and shoes and, quite pleased with herself, said, “I’m pretty in pink!”

“I’m not going to get married. It’d be nice and simple and peaceful. No one picking on you.”

Ms. Kathi’s been helping her get excited about reading over the summer, and she told Spiffer that HG’s her own best critic. She wants to get it right, and I don’t have to tell her.

“That guy is going to get in trouble with a police officer for drinking and driving! He’s drinking a COKE- with the top OPEN!!”

We usually say “bread and butter” as we approach something between us and then “toast and jam” after we get around it. The other day, HG said, “Butters and jam!”

I had the news on while I got in the shower to get ready for work. HG woke up while I was in the shower, and when I got out, I found her in my bed watching the news. I tried to change the channel to something more kid appropriate, and she stopped me and said, “No, I want to watch something serious!”
